I am in the market for a new compact tractor. I currently own a Ferguson TE-20. Its a nice old tractor, but very limited. Ive looked at the New Holland TC25, and I think it is what Im looking for. I got a quote of 12,000 for the FWD model. I am not interested in Hydrostat drive.Any opinions on this tractor or any other brands in the 25hp category?v It doesnt have a live PTO, which makes bush hogging tough. Do other makes like JD, Kubota, Massey, etc have live PTO's? Is this something I can live without? Any advice would be appreciated! Mike

Check out the New Holland 1720 & 1920 they are available with live PTO.I havethe 1720,Fwd,loader, live PTO, loaded Ag's, and rear hyd.spool.It's seems to bea much more substantial machine for the money than the boomer.Im from Canadaso as far as price goes and taxes and taxes and taxes go there is no sense evenmentioning a number. We are blessed , as others, with large snow falls so the live PTO is essential for my 5 foot snoblower.Other chores include brush hoggingwhich again is made much easier with live PTO. You will most likly deal in your automobiles a couple of times before you do a compact so think ahead and buy a little more tractor now instead of regretting it later. ....

Another option is the JD790 since you don't want HST. Not only doesit have Continuous Live PTO, it is rated at 30hp gross -- 25hp PTO.The base price is around $11,000 for FWD. I had mine for about 3 weeks.Use it for mowing and some loader work. The tractor has plenty power tospare.Rick ....

Correct me if I am wrong please, but don't all modern tractors have an override clutch on the pto so that even a non-live system ( transmission driven) can not be driven forward by the momentum of the rear attatchment? I own hst so it isn't an issue for me, but that is my understanding. Seems like the lawyers would have a field day if this problem wasn't eliminated at the design stage.Paul ....
